SIGMOD 2027 CALL FOR DEMONSTRATION PROPOSALS
The SIGMOD demonstration program is an important venue for sharing cutting-edge data management system prototypes (both software and hardware) with the greater SIGMOD community. The program emphasizes visionary systems that require significant research and development effort. We solicit demonstration proposals that are inspired by real applications and highlight exciting new data management technologies. The demonstrations are expected to focus on data-intensive components of systems that solve problems in areas of interest to the community (e.g., data curation, exploration, analysis, and management) and showcase advanced techniques (in, e.g., storage, systems, algorithms, and user interfaces).
Following a tradition started in 2025, we additionally solicit demonstrations from industry. We encourage companies to submit proposals that highlight new technical features, deployment of research results, as well as research challenges and opportunities. Instead of merely showcasing existing product features, the demonstration should also enhance the audience's understanding of the underlying technology and research as well as practical challenges.
Proposal Format
Each demonstration proposal must be submitted as a single PDF file of no more than FOUR US letter-sized
(8.5'' x 11'') pages. This page limit includes all parts of a proposal: title, abstract, body, and
bibliography. The camera-ready version has the same page limit. Demonstration proposals must follow the ACM
Proceedings Format, using either the sample-sigconf.tex or ACM_SigConf.docx
template provided at https://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template
for LaTeX (version 2e) or Word, respectively. Note that the font size has to be changed to 9 pts (this is
done via \documentclass[sigconf,9pt]{acmart} in Latex). The margins, inter-column spacing,
and line spacing in the templates must be kept unchanged. Please make sure you are using the latest
version of the ACM template. Any submitted paper violating the length, file type, or formatting
requirements will be desk-rejected without review.
Optional video. Authors can optionally include a short video (up to 5 minutes) of their demonstration to illustrate the user experience by walking through a use case. While the video is not required, we highly encourage authors to use this chance to showcase their system to the reviewers. The video should be hosted online, and its URL should be included in the proposal abstract.
Industry demonstrations. For industry demonstrations, please append "[Industry]" to the title of your submission (the camera-ready version will not have this annotation).
Diversity and inclusion in writing. We value diversity and inclusion in our community and profession. As such, we require that demonstration proposals follow the same guidelines provided for regular research papers (please refer to the Call for Research Papers).
Submission Process
All submissions must be done electronically through CMT (the exact submission site is under construction). Submissions to the demonstration track are NOT subject to double-blind reviewing: the author name(s) and affiliation(s) must be present in the submitted document. Each author is required to have both a registered CMT account and an ORCID ID. Submissions with authors who lack a CMT registration or an ORCID ID will be desk-rejected.
Accepted proposals will appear in the final proceedings. Upon acceptance, the video can be made part of the permanent artifact in ACM Digital Library. Authors will be allowed to revise their video for the final camera-ready submission.
Conflicts of interest (COI). Within 24 hours of the submission deadline, all authors must declare their individual domains and PC conflicts on CMT, or the submission will be desk-rejected. COIs are declared on a per-author basis; they are not submission-specific. For the definition of the COIs as well as instructions on how to declare them on CMT, please refer to the SIGMOD Call for Research Papers. However, note that COIs for the demonstration program must be declared separately from the research program.
CMT Acknowledgment
The Microsoft CMT service was used for managing the peer-reviewing process for this conference. This service was provided for free by Microsoft and they bore all expenses, including costs for Azure cloud services as well as for software development and support.
Selection Criteria
Selection of demonstrations for presentation at SIGMOD is highly competitive. The evaluation criteria include both the audience experience and the intellectual contributions. The optional video will also be regarded in the selection process.
In terms of the audience experience, the proposal should describe in detail:
- What exactly will the audience see?
- Will they be able to interact with the system?
- Is there an interesting scenario or script that will be used to motivate the demonstration?
In terms of intellectual contributions, the proposal should describe the proposed system's target users, use cases, architecture, functionalities, key techniques employed, and highlight its novel aspects. The proposal must also include citations of the most relevant papers, including any previous publications on or related to the proposed system. Priority will be given to systems that have never been demonstrated before. For prototype systems still under active development, authors should clearly indicate (either in the video or in the proposal) which parts are already implemented and which are to be implemented in the final submission.
For industry demonstrations, a core consideration of acceptance is whether they further enhance the audience's understanding of the underlying technology and research, as well as practical challenges, besides simply showcasing existing product features.
Best Demo awards will be selected and presented at the SIGMOD conference, based on both the reviews received by the proposal and judging of the actual demonstration at the conference.
