H. V. Jagadish
Edgar F Codd Distinguished University Professor and Bernard A Galler Collegiate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Michigan
Bio: H.V. Jagadish is the Edgar F. Codd Distinguished University Professor and Bernard A. Galler Collegiate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and director of the Michigan Institute for Data Science. Jagadish is well known for his broad-ranging research on information management. He holds 38 patents, with an H-index of 106. He is a fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and of American Association for the Advancement of Science. He has served on the board of the Computing Research Association (2009-2018) and chaired the board of the Alliance of Data Science and AI (2021-2025). He is a member of the National Academies’ Committee on National Statistics since 2023. He has been an associate editor for the ACM Transactions on Database Systems, program chair of the ACM SIGMOD (Special Interest Group on Management of Data) annual conference, program chair of the ISMB conference, a trustee of the VLDB (Very Large DataBase) foundation, founding editor-in-chief of the Proceedings of the VLDB Endowment, and program chair of the VLDB Conference. Since 2016, he is editor of the Morgan & Claypool “Synthesis” Lecture Series on Data Management. He has won both the Ted Codd Innovation Award and the ACM SIGMOD Contributions Award. His popular MOOC on Data Science Ethics is available on both EdX and Coursera.
Kathryn S. McKinley
Distinguished Software Engineer, Google
Bio: Kathryn S. McKinley is a Distinguished Software Engineer at Google, where she works on agentically transforming Google’s C and C++ system software to memory safe Rust. She previously worked on efficiency for Google Cloud and capacity planning. Prior to Google, she was a Principal Researcher at Microsoft and an Endowed Professor at The University of Texas at Austin. Her research interests span programming languages, compilers, runtime systems, ML for systems, and architecture. She and her collaborators have produced several widely used tools: the DaCapo Java Benchmarks (30,000+ downloads), Lifetime-aware VM Allocation (LAVA), the TRIPS Compiler, the Hoard memory manager, the MMTk memory management toolkit, and the LXR and Immix garbage collectors.
Dr. McKinley is an IEEE Fellow, ACM Fellow, and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Her awards include the ACM SIGPLAN Programming Language Achievement Award; the ACM SIGPLAN Programming Languages Software Award; five test-of-time paper awards from ASPLOS, OOPSLA (2), ICS, and SIGMETRICS; and best paper awards from ASPLOS, PLDI, Middlewear, MLSys (honorable mention), IEEE Micro Top Picks (4) honorable mention (1), SIGPLAN Research Highlights (2), and CACM Research Highlights (3). She has graduated 23 PhD students. She served as program chair for ASPLOS, PLDI, PACT, ISMM, and CGO.
Her service has been recognized with the ACM SIGPLAN Distinguished Service Award and the ACM SIGARCH Alan D. Berenbaum Distinguished Service Award. She is a former Board member of Darpa ISAT, CRA, and CRA-WP. As co-chair of CRA-WP, she coordinated hundreds of volunteers to positively impact the careers and lives of thousands of women and minority computer science undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, and PhD researchers. She established CERP, which evaluates the effectiveness of programs to increase the diversity of computer science researchers. For founding CARES to help research community members who experience or witness discrimination, harassment or other ethical policy violations, she and her collaborators received the CRA Service award.
Raghu Ramakrishnan
CTO for Data, Technical Fellow, Microsoft
Bio: Raghu Ramakrishnan is CTO for Data and a Technical Fellow at Microsoft, where he leads architecture and technical strategy across Microsoft’s data platforms, including Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data services. Previously, he was a professor in the Computer Sciences Department at the University of Wisconsin at Madison from 1987 to 2006, where he wrote the widely used textbook “Database Management Systems” (often called the “Cow Book”) with Johannes Gehrke. In 1999, he founded QUIQ, a company powering crowdsourced question answering as a cloud service. He joined Yahoo! in 2006 as a Yahoo! Fellow and served as Chief Scientist for the portal, cloud, and search divisions before joining Microsoft in 2012. His research spans database systems, data mining, information retrieval, deductive databases, and cloud scale data management.
Dr. Ramakrishnan is a Fellow of both the ACM and the IEEE. He has received the Innovation Award from both ACM SIGMOD and ACM SIGKDD, multiple 10 year “Test of Time” paper awards from the ACM SIGMOD, ACM SoCC, ICDT, and VLDB conferences, the ACM SIGMOD Contributions Award, and the IEEE Elmasri Database Education Award. His additional honors include the IIT Madras Distinguished Alumnus Award, the NSF Presidential Young Investigator Award, and the Packard Fellowship in Science and Engineering.
